A 500-Word Proposal Explaining The Relationship Between The Quality And Integrity Of Data Entered Into A Database And The Resulting Effect On The Quality Of Patient Care

Information Data Management Competency 1

Data and information management competency is a core aspect of nursing, especially for nurse informaticists. Further, information and data management skills are important for nurses as they can leverage data to improve patient care by making better decisions after interpreting trends and other critical components of care provision (Al Omar et al., 2019). The purpose of this paper is to offer a proposal to the management detailing the interaction or relationship between the quality and integrity of data in the database and the corresponding effects on quality of patient care.

Quality & Integrity of Data and Resulting Effect on Quality of Patient Care

In their study, Zarour et al. (2021) observe that data integrity is a critical issue in healthcare sector. Data integrity and quality ensures that there is accuracy and data has not been altered or changed in a manner that can compromise patient care. Incorrect data is a significant health threat for patients and places a big responsibility on clinicians. The ensuing problems associated with lack of data integrity include possible scam, misconduct and ineffective and insufficient treatment as well as theft of such information. Therefore, it is on this basis that having data management skills is essential for nurses to understand the significance of data integrity in their healthcare settings.

The quality of data means that it has been kept well and analyzed to help patients and providers make effective decisions to attain the right treatment interventions. Having the training will help nurses understand the relationship between data integrity and quality, not just at the time of its creation but throughout the entire lifetime of the data. Data integrity and quality rely on health records being updated as soon as there is new information on different aspects of care (Al Omar et al., 2019). Addition, it is critical that the data is only recorded by authorized individuals like nurse informaticists who understand different aspects of the data in question.

Reviewing patient data allows nurses to communicate changes that are subtle to providers. In this case, it is essential for the organization’s management to set aside resources in the budget to cater for continuous training in data management skills for all nurses. Data quality and integrity enhance patient outcomes as providers cannot make decisions without reviewing the information in their databases concerning the interventions required for different patients. Telemedicine and telehealth are health technologies that rely on data integrity and accuracy (Tao et al., 2018). Nurses can only interact well with patients using these technologies when they possess data management and analytical skills which organizations should provide to their employees. For instance, patients in acute care settings like the intensive care unit (ICU) are delicate and nurses as well as physicians can only offer care when they interpret the collected data on vital signs in the management of such patients. The use of data analytics skills is a core component of clinical decision support (CDS) for physicians and even advanced level nurses. As such, the management should consider the different aspects of data utilization and ensure that they set funds in the budget to cater for this training.

Conclusion

Data and information management skills are essential and allow nurses as well as physicians to make right decisions. The training is a core aspect of protecting the accuracy and integrity of data that will go through or is stored in the organization’s database. Therefore, the budget process and allocations should consider funds to complete the ongoing data management skills’ training for nurses.

A 500-Word Proposal Explaining The Relationship Between The Quality And Integrity Of Data Entered Into A Database And The Resulting Effect On The Quality Of Patient Care

Apply Competency 1

Information and data management are essential for all nurses to have, but especially for nurse informaticists. Data is essential to a hospital or other health care organizationâ€s capacity to improve patient care. You know how important it is to review a patientâ€s data so you can communicate any changes, which can be subtle, to providers in a timely manner.

Your nurse manager has told you there is a possibility her proposed budget will not pass, which means there wonâ€t be enough funding for ongoing training in data management skills. However, the administration is willing to hear input from nurses about how the training would make a positive impact for patients.

She has asked you to draft a 500-word proposal explaining the relationship between the quality and integrity of data entered into a database and the resulting effect on the quality of patient care.

Your audience is a group of senior-level administrators. You can showcase your ability to manage data by including data along with specific examples.

This will make a great addition to your personal portfolio, in terms of analysis and writing in a professional setting.

Include a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed sources and develop an APA-formatted reference page. Use the APA Style Guide, 7th Edition.
