Academic engagement through active participation in instructional activities related to the course objectives is paramount to your success in this course and future courses. Through interaction with your instructor and classmates, you will explore the course material and be provided with the best opportunity for objective and competency mastery. To begin this class, review the course objectives for each Topic, and then answer the following questions as this will help guide your instructor for course instruction.
Which weekly objectives do you have prior knowledge of and to what extent?
Which weekly objectives do you have no prior knowledge of?
What course-related topics would you like to discuss with your instructor and classmates? What questions or concerns do you have about this course?
Hello Dr. Ward and classmates,
When reading through the weekly topic objectives for this course, I found that I had some prior knowledge of presenting a PICOT for the evidence-based practice project proposal, identifying potential stakeholders in an evidence-based project, and learning how to effectively analyze and integrate literature for inclusion in my PICOT project. While I am not as familiar with the integration of change models/frameworks into discussion of evidence-based practice, it is something we have discussed in a previous course, and I am eager to become more familiar with the knowledge of it as we move though the topics in this class. It has also been some time since I have utilized any knowledge of statistical analysis in-depth, so I am a little apprehensive about integrating knowledge of research designs and statistical tests into the evidence-based project proposal.
I feel as though the previous course we took, NUR-550: Translational Research and Population Health Management, really helped set a good foundation for the topics we will be discussing throughout the next eight weeks in this class. I am most eager to talk about some of the ideas my classmates may have about potential areas for evidence-based practice projects for areas affecting population health in the current state of healthcare, as I feel as though I gained a lot of information from discussing the various ideas for projects with my classmates in my previous course.
The weekly objectives I have prior knowledge of are presenting a PICOT for the evidence-based practice project proposal, examining the role of advanced registered nursing in evidence-based practice, and describing effective strategies to create an evidence-based practice culture within a health care setting (DeNisco, 2021). I know that advanced registered nurses play a vital role in evidence-based practice by incorporating research findings into their clinical practice, advocating for the utilization of evidence-based interventions, and promoting patient-centered care. In addition, I have prior knowledge in identifying stakeholders required for the evidence-based practice project and assessing organizational readiness for the evidence-based practice project.
Moreover, the weekly objectives I have no prior knowledge of include; applying a change model or framework to the evidence-based practice project proposal, describing the relationship between bias and a framework or model, and selecting a research design for the evidence-based project proposal (DeNisco, 2021). Also, I do not know about selecting a statistical test for the evidence-based project proposal, developing an evaluation plan for the evidence-based project proposal, identifying gaps in the literature based on findings, proposing strategies used to disseminate evidence to influence health care outcomes, and evaluating evidence to determine and implement the best evidence for practice.
Furthermore, some of the course-related topics I would like to discuss with my classmates and instructor includes; inquiring about the practical examples of successful integration of evidence-based practice initiative in healthcare settings (DeNisco, 2021). The other topic I will discuss with my classmates is ethical considerations in evidence-based practice, including problems with informed consent and patient autonomy and the role of informatics and technology in supporting evidence-based practice. Moreover, a concern about the course is whether there will be opportunities for hands-on practice in critically appraising research studies. And are there any collaborative activities or group projects to reinforce interdisciplinary learning?

Hello Dr. Ward and class,
In reviewing the course content and syllabus I am excited to begin this next course, there is a lot of work but most of it has been covered in previous courses. I am feeling secure this course will cement some of the learning and ideas from previous coursework.
1). Most of the weekly objectives have been covered in previous coursework, I feel like this course will really focus on the evidence-based practice project and bringing it to a close while enhancing current knowledge about EBP.
2). As previously written many of the objectives in this course I have familiarity with either through previous coursework or through my professional experience. In browsing the objectives there is an area to discuss the statistical analysis of the EBP project, although I have prior knowledge this is an area I always struggle with. It has been many years since I have taken a statistics course and I do not work directly with statistical analysis at work. Although I am confident we can all succeed this will be more of a struggle or me personally.
3). I am excited and looking forward to seeing and hearing about everyone’s EBP project and the ways in which it will grow into an evidence-based practice proposal that hopefully will become practice at some of our institutions. This would be the true measure of success! I would like to discuss with our instructor and classmates the use of loom. I see one of the weeks we are required to make a loom presentation, recently I had to do this and loom has changed their requirements, for a presentation longer than 5 minutes a student or professional needs to pay for a subscription. This was new to me as it had worked for previous courses. Just wanted to put out there in case this is also new to anyone else in the forum or Dr. Ward.REPLY
