Your goal in this essay is to untangle the facts from the half-truths and interpret the bias that has helped shape a simple statement into a powerful myth. You will explain the myth; research the biased versions of the myth and the unbiased version of facts. You will also interpret who tends to believe and repeat myth, why they believe the myth, and what meaning they get from it. Finally, you will create a main idea that offers a comprehensive and reliable statement regarding the amount of truth in the myth.
Your essay will be a minimum of 6 complete pages in length (not including Works Cited) and a maximum of 8 pages
You will use at least 2 highly biased sources (this includes but is not limited to non-credible sources, seemingly ‘credible’ (but not) websites, websites that promote the myth, personal interviews, and anecdotal research from sites like Reddit, Tumblr, etc.)
You will use at least 3 minimally biased / highly credible sources (this includes but is not limited to printed books, academic journals, government studies, scientific studies, Snopes, and credible, high-quality journalism that attempts to be unbiased, or at least equal in its reporting)
Use MLA for the essay format, source citation and integration, and a Works Cited page
Use essay & paragraph techniques
