The readings by both LaPointe and Moss deal with tensions between corporations and their consumers. While Moss deals with the food industry and Lapointe explores the drug industry, there are overlapping themes: what responsibilties do corporations have to consider the wellbeing of their consumers in addition to the amount of profit the can generate? Does government have a role, and if so to what degree, in regulating this tension? Write an essay in which you consider the question of how the profit motive of corporations in a capitalist system should be balanced with the issue of the public good. Do the actions of food and drug companies point to a need to rebalance profit motives with an eye toward greater accountability, or do the benefits of their offered products justify their continued free reign to be the unregualted drivers of the food and drug industries? Address this general question in any way you see fit, but please adhere to the following guidelines
