By the end of this project, students should have gained an understanding of the role of marketing and many of the steps taken to provide an effective marketing plan presentation.
Task: Students will work in groups (3-4 people depending on the size of the class) to create a PowerPoint presentation that showcases the group’s knowledge learned throughout the course. The groups will be tasked with creating a compelling marketing plan/presentation for a “new product” (one they conceptually create). Research in the industry/market (citing when taking information from sources) and using the terminology and concepts from the textbook is expected in all presentations.
Citations AND references are required for this assignment. Students MUST provide Citation/References for any researched material. It is expected that every group will have cited material. Students should use APA format for citations and references. Citations (Author, Year written or posted) should be provided near referenced material, in the notes and or in the PPT slide. References (the list of sources) should be at the end of the presentation.
Citation and References Resources:
• https://apastyle.apa.org/
The PowerPoint presentation should start with a title slide with all the names of the group members, an introduction of what items will be presented (how the presentation is organized – a table of contents) and then offer information about the brainstormed product. The body of the presentation should provide engaging visuals and text and address all the areas shared in the skills section (references to these areas are discussed throughout the semester) above. The end of the presentation should conclude with a wrap-up that summarizes the marketing plan (aka a conclusion) and a list of references. The presentation should have a minimum of 20 slides and a maximum of 30 slides.
Notes (PPT has an area where you can write notes for a slide, do not provide a separate document) must be provided for the majority of the slides. The notes information should showcase to me the link between your understanding of the textbook and what you have provided for your business/product (that link between knowledge of the terms/concepts and being able to apply it). Notes should explain why you picked what strategies you picked and align with the terminology/concepts from the text and your research. The 2nd section of the rubric below is dedicated solely towards assessing the notes section.
Blackboard Examples:
I have provided examples of presentations from previous semesters on Blackboard. Because these are actual final projects, there are some issues. The presentations should not be exactly how you create your presentation. You need to look back at the feedback your group was provided for your ICA assignments and use your own judgment along with the presentation examples. I expect even better presentations/projects from you all. Make sure to carefully review items in the examples, such as the order of concepts (sometimes you can review this from the Table of Contents if it is detailed, which it should be) and whether all skill areas are presentto see if you need to make any adjustments.
Group Dynamics:
While I know working in groups is not always liked by all students, working in groups is absolutely a skill needed for the workforce. It is best to get practice at it and become better skilled at it.
Some groups may have creative differences or other issues. Students should not wait until the project is submitted or close to completion to discuss with me the issues. There is not much that can be done at that point. If issues arise that appear not to be able to be resolved through healthy discussion amongst the group, I should be contacted for resolution. Most issues are able to be resolved with my help. It is rare that this is not achieved; however, if we cannot come to a resolution, the group may be able to be separated and team members or individuals can complete the entirety of the project.
Criteria for Success:
This project is worth a total of 190 points.
The grading criteria (rubric) for the marketing plan is provided below. Not citing properly will result in a lowered grade, not citing and providing references may result in a failing grade – plagiarism
