Focus on the two chapters that deal with education (Ch. 19, pp. 463-486) and happiness (Ch. 28, pp. 729-756). The topic for this essay will be the intersection of these two issues.
In an essay of approximately 1000 words, please write a research paper about the following topic:
What is happiness? How do you define it? Do people have a right to happiness? What are the three most important things that can help people be happy? (Think about the things mentioned in chapters 19 and 28- education, marriage, family, but you are also free to come up with anything that you can plausibly argue and prove using evidence).
To support your argument, please use at least four separate sources. They should include a mix of sources from the text, quality popular and academic (scholarly) sources. If you also want to use a case of personal experience as an example, that would be wonderful, but you should also have outside sources that you find through research. This is an argumentative essay that should have a thesis statement that expresses your opinion on the issue.
General guidelines:
Please make sure that your essay contains the following elements:
a descriptive title that tells the reader what the essay is about (i.e., not “Essay #3”)
one inch margins on all sides with type that is double spaced and a standard 12 pt. font
information obtained from an outside source should be cited in two ways: parenthetically in the text with author’s last name and page number (Kincaid 12), and as an MLA formatted entry on a references page at the end of the essay.
Your essay must have a Works Cited page
