1. Compare the beach scenes on pages 14 and 15 of Lord of the Flies to the last beach scene with Ellie and her father in Contact. Focus on the idea of materialization out of nothing (ex nihilo), how the beach becomes a stage in time, a moment in eternal time, the materialization of characters and a story that unfolds, which is for all time.
2. Chapter three: Using three quotations from pages 57-59, reveal Simon’s close connection to his surroundings. How does this close connection suggest a kind of goodness or holiness, if holiness is seen as peace and acceptance in the world?
3. Chapter Eight: Explain the importance of the ‘Lord of the Flies’.
4. Chapter Twelve: Imagine you are the naval officer who finds the boys. Write the report of the discovery, explaining why you stopped on the island and what you found.
Reminder: please use the attached file to answer these questions and when explaining use the words that are only in the book nothing else.
