Your final paper asks you to write a 4-6 page literature review essay on a topic of your choice related to the effects of new media technology on society. Possible literature review topics could include, but are not limited to:
The role of new media in cultural production and dissemination
The impact of new media on specific facts of the economy
The ways in which new media has changed the face of politics and political discourse
The debate surrounding how to balance privacy rights with the increasing necessity to maintain a digital presence
The democratizing effect of new media technologies, and how these technologies have changed the process of collective sociopolitical action
The paper should be organized as an in-depth literature review of current scholarly sources on your chosen topic. Your final product should include the three major elements of a literature review: summary, synthesis, and analysis. Once you find current scholarly sources on your chosen topic, summarize the overall viewpoints of these sources, synthesize these different viewpoints to illustrate how they relate with one another (what are the different sides of the conversation?) and provide your own analysis of the sources you’ve synthesized. Your analysis can take the following forms:
give a new interpretation of old material or combine new with old interpretations,
trace the intellectual progression of the field, including major debates,
depending on the situation, evaluate the sources and advise the reader on the most pertinent or relevant, or
identify where gaps exist in how a problem has been discussed to date.

Students have the option of submitting a combination of written text, images, video, or audio that allows them to fully explain and support their responses. Regardless of format, your assignment must include a References page in APA format that includes any outside sources included in your assignment.
