Executive Summary (one page)
Executive summary should be a one or two paragraph explanation of the assignment and the focus of the paper.
In academia, it is traditional to use the third person when writing papers and not to use “I or we” and this is to be followed for the weekly written assignments except in the recommendations section of the paper. When attributing any information to a source, it is done in the past tense because the work was published in the past.
The most important part of writing a paper is proof reading. “Most word-processing programs have a function that checks spelling. If a word spelled correctly is used incorrectly, the spell check will not catch that error. The value of the grammar check is to alert the writer to a potential problem, such as (a) too many spaces between words, (b) a space is needed between words, (c) a different punctuation mark needed, (d) split infinitive, (e) dangling modifier, (f) run-on phrase, and etcetera. Sometimes the grammar check is incorrect; however, it gives the writer a chance to decide whether to address the item or not. When saving the document, be sure the name of the author is in the name of the document along with the title of the assignment.
