Pick a decision that you made recently that has had important consequences for you. Using the material in the book, particularly Chapter Seven, analyze the way in which you made the decision.

In particular:

Identify the criteria you used, either consciously or unconsciously, to guide your decision making.

List the alternatives you considered. Were they all possible alternatives? Did you unconsciously (or consciously) ignore some important alternatives?

How much information did you have about each alternative? Were you making the decision on the basis of complete or incomplete information?
<

Try to remember how you reached the decision. Did you sit down and think through the implications of each alternative, or did you make the decision on the basis of intuition? Did you use any rules of thumb to help you make the decision?

Having answered the previous questions, do you think in retrospect that you made a reasonable decision? What, if anything, might you do to improve your ability to make good decisions in the future? An analysis of the control function is particularly important to this exercise.

This assignment is weighted heavily in the material in Chapter Seven. However, a mastery of material from throughout the course will be viewed most favorably. Use of material from the text, particularly vocabulary, is both expected and required. A paper that does not make use of course material will be graded accordingly.
