use a visual aid please. these are the instructions
Your fourth essay requires that you add a visual aid, which can be a graph, chart, or picture that supports your thesis/claim. Inserting a visual aid into your essay is similar to using the “sandwich method” to incorporate a quote. Before inserting the visual, you’ll need a lead-in that explains the source and the visual, and that refers to it by figure and number. Then, you add the visual to your essay. Below the actual graph, chart, or picture, you need to document the source of the visual. This is different from a quote where you would provide the full citation on the Works Cited page. You do NOT do that with visuals. They do NOT get listed on your WC page. Instead, you document a visual immediately below it in your paper. Finally, you need to write a follow-up. This should explain the graph or picture and how it, and any data on it, relates to or supports your thesis/claim. Again, this last part is important because you need to explain, analyze and/or interpret your visual.
There are a couple more things you need to know about visuals. First, they should not be any larger than half a page. Also, you need to make sure all the information is legible. Sometimes, when copying graphs or pictures, they get blurry and you can’t read them. It’s VERY important that your visual is clear and large enough for the reader to see. The second thing has to do with formatting. Sometimes, where you want to put the visual will end up leaving a huge gap between it and the text. There should NOT be any gaps (white spaces) in your essay!!! If this happens, move the visual to a place where there is no gap. Oftentimes, that means moving it to the next page and dropping it in between paragraphs. That’s fine as long as you refer to your visual by number in your essay and begin your citation with that figure and number.
