As the youngest member of an editorial staff (President’s speech writers, magazine, newspaper, online news source, social media PR, etc.) who is preparing for an upcoming press conference/publication, you are tasked with providing an objective perspective/position on one of several current hot topics that are the focus of satirical commentary/publications. You must research both sides of the issue, present your findings, and give a personal recommendation as to which side has the most defensible stance based on available public information on the issue. Because satire is often used to reflect on political and social issues in order to inspire change the staff wishes to make sure that they have a clear understanding of the topic so that they can have a significant impact on the political/social landscape.
Now that you have completed your research on your political cartoon, it is time for you to form a stance based off that research. Take the articles you have discovered and formulate the position you think has the most merit based on your research.
-Be careful that your position is based on research and not personal bias. (Every claim needs to have evidence and you don’t express opinions as facts).
-Come up with 3 recommendations as to how the company/party that you are representing should proceed. What stance should they take? Why is the event in question good or bad? What actions should they take in response to it?
-Every claim you make MUST be backed up with evidence from your research.
-Each piece of evidence you use must have an explanation for your reasoning as to how it proves your claim(s).
-You must have an introductory paragraph and a conclusion paragraph.
-Your introductory paragraph must have a thesis that tells what your official stance on the issue is and what steps you recommend for your company/party to take in response to it.
-Each body paragraph should explain your reasoning for why you think your company/party should take certain steps.
-Your conclusion paragraph should summarize each of your main points and reiterate the next steps you think your company/party should take.
