Assessment task:
You are working as an advanced practice nurse and your facility has received a complaint from another healthcare organisation regarding the treatment of a patient at your facility for a recent appointment for a health assessment. Knowing that you are completing studies in advanced practice, you have been tasked by the facility manager to use the patient’s case and complaint to deliver an education session at an upcoming multidisciplinary team quality improvement meeting.
There are two (2) parts to this assessment:
Part A: Watch the video recorded health assessment and read the letter of complaint from the Assessment Item 2 Resource Folder – Subject Site and reflect on the issues presented.
Part B: Create a narrated presentation using PowerPoint to present at a multidisciplinary team quality improvement meeting. The aim of this session is to provide some much-needed education relating to this patient and the considerations required to ensure delivery of holistic person-centred care. Using examples from the video Page 10 of 21 recorded health assessment to support your discussion, your education session must include the following four (4) components:
1. Describe a health assessment framework(s) you would recommend your colleagues use to perform the health assessment for this patient.
2. Discuss the cultural/spiritual and life stage factors your colleagues need to consider for this patient, so that delivery of holistic person-centred care can be achieved.
3. Analyze ineffective communication portrayed in the video and discuss a total of four (4) effective communication and interviewing techniques to your colleagues that they could use instead.
4. Defend how clinical reasoning and shared decision-making in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team mitigates the risk of cognitive biases portrayed in the video.
