Social Media Campaign Project on Alcohol Abuse

Problem

The problem is alcohol abuse, which is persistent in society affecting a significant number of young. Alcohol abuse among the youth results in physical health problems, behavioral issues, academic challenges, and a range of mental health issues including depression, suicidal ideation, depression, and personality disorders among other (NIH, 2021). Alcohol also causes erratic behaviors such as drunk driving which can lead to fatal accidents or disabling injuries.

The target population is youths.

Data

Underage alcohol drinking is on the rise. According to 2019 survey, 24.6% of 14- to 15-year-olds indicated that they had at least one drink in the past 12 months. Similarly, 7.0 million youths in the age range 12 to 20 admitted to have drunk alcohol beyond just tasting in the last 12 months (NIH, 2021).

Statistics vary with race and ethnicity. White and Hispanic youth aged 18 years is twice as likely to drink as a Black of similar age. However, at age 14, all youths are likely to drink alcohol regardless of race or ethnicity (NIH, 2021).
