1. Explain what to take under consideration regarding literature selection in an integrated language arts classroom (text p.322 11-1a).Choose one activity mentioned and describe how you would implement the specific activity in the classroom.
2. Describe characteristics of a basal reading program, and describe how you would implement it in a classroom setting.
3. List the steps of a typical guided reading lesson, and describe procedures associated with each of them, and tell how you would implement it in a classroom setting.
4. List the benefits and challenges of using technology to teach reading. Synthesize informaton from two or three sources. Explain whether this technological approach agrees or disagrees with your philosophy of education.
5. Compare and contrast a balanced literacy program with different approaches, and discuss how it can be implemented in the classroom.
6. Describe the relationship between reading and writing and describe an instructional activity you would us to integrate reading and writing in a classroom setting.

Chapter 12 Content Area Literacy
Traditionally, teachers tried to match the readability of content-area materials with students’ instructional level. Conversely, some literacy experts believe that students should read content materials that represent a range of text readability. (See Section 12-2 Difficulty of Text and Supplementary Materials.) Keep this in mind, if it is applicable, as you respond.
