Choose a poem, song, academic article, newspaper article, work of art, movie or movie
scene, lecture or talk, street art, a creation of your own, or any other media that depicts
any of the themes we have covered in this class.
The goal is to choose something you already encounter. Is there a song you’ve been
listening to that you realize talks about death and meaning? Is there a work of art about
life and death you’d like to think about in the context of the class? Are you an artist and
wish to create something for this project, or perhaps you already have created something
related to class themes?
This media selection should be something you can think about on your own using the
ideas we learned about this semester. You are not asked to do research (unless you want
to)!
Once you have selected something to analyze, include it in this portfolio. Take a photo,
screenshot, or include the text if it’s a poem or song. If it’s not something that can be
easily represented on a page, then I ask that you represent it as best as you can and
include a brief paragraph explaining the relevant details. For example, you can take a
screenshot of a scene from a film and write a paragraph description of what is happening
in the scene or film as a whole that you are connecting to class themes.
Note: if you are having trouble finding something, you may use any of the optional
videos or articles I posted during the semester. The Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA is
free and a great place to find inspiration.
