Watch a film depicting crime and answer all of the questions below.
Discuss one explanation/theory of crime (e.g., social disorganization theory, biological theories etc.) as it’s depicted in a film of your choosing. Focus on one theory even if there are sub elements of another theory. Discuss each component of the theory as it relates to the film. You can start by providing the principles of the theory and describing how the film fits each of them.
Choose one character and discuss the factors that drove that character’s criminality. Discuss how those factors are tied to and supported by the formal explanation of crime (theory). Use your text and/or journal articles. Discuss whether it was driven by person (e.g., strain, biological, etc.) or place (e.g., neighborhood, strain, etc.)
What type of victimization was present in the film? Based on the types of crimes committed, in the real world, what is the victims’ role in the sanctioning process. Students should review victim impact statement legislation and victim focused policies.
