Mr EZY, Head of the Department of Education in Temasek Learning Hub (TLH) , has hired you to serve as the role of Systems Engineer to upgrade the company’s infrastructure. Most of the staff computers are still running on Windows 7 which has come to an end on January 14, 2020.
Due to the recent Coronavirus (COVID-19), the government is encouraging schools to use internet platforms as an alternative way of teaching students. Mr EZY is considering how an eLearning program could be implemented if students are forced to miss class time. He is also considering about embracing flexible working hours for staff to work from home.
In view of this, he is considering to purchase 20 new PCs bundled with a new operating system. The company is also thinking to ride on the Bring-Your-Own Device (BYOD) wave to purchase smartphones for the 20 employees to enable them to check their corporate emails on the go, with the view of increasing productivity even when they work from home.
To move forward, the company also plans to purchase a Windows Server 2016 plus the necessary software to provide user-level access to data, applications, and desktop environments for both
management and staff. As a Systems engineer, you are now tasked to conduct research and provide recommendations on your company’s IT plan with a budget of S$70,000.
PART A : RESEARCH
The following are the items you will need to research:
a) Research ANY 2 PC/laptop Operating Systems (OS) and state which operating systems you would recommend.
(Examples of OS : Unix, Windows or Mac or others)
a) Research on ANY 2 virtual collaboration tools which Temasek Learning Hub (TLH) will benefit. (Examples : MS Teams, Zoom etc)
PART B : DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION OF Windows 2022 server on VirtualBox
The design/implementation of a Windows server.
You need to include the set up/integration of at LEAST 3 server roles as stated below:
Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) – Mandatory
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) – Mandatory
Domain Name Server (DNS) Server – Mandatory
Any additional server roles (with supporting reasons/considerations) with the appropriate configuration and setup.
Create different groups etc in Active Directory Users and Computers (make your own assumptions for staff allocation).
