Directions: Create an original, elementary-level (3rd-grade Core Subjects) Classroom Management Plan in a table format that includes the following elements/subheadings:

Teaching Philosophy
Classroom Rules
Subject-Specific Rules
Consequences & Rewards
Classroom Procedures
Classroom Arrangement
Reflection
None of the “Examples” below may be copied or utilized in your plan in any way

Teaching Philosophy

While a philosophy of teaching is generally written as a full essay, we are expecting only a short paragraph for your CM plan. You should reflect on your beliefs about the teaching and learning process and highlight how you will create a positive learning environment for ALL students.
Some questions to consider to get you started:

• Why will you teach the way that you plan to teach?

• What kind of classroom culture do you want to create?

• What do you want students to get out of their time with you?

The remainder of your CM plan should reflect what you describe in the Teaching Philosophy

Classroom Rules

List at least five (5) rules you plan to implement in your classroom
The classroom rules should be clearly stated and developmentally appropriate for the grade level. They should also reflect how you plan to create a positive classroom environment.

Subject-Specific Rules

List any subject-specific rules for your classroom
Some subject areas will require specific rules in addition to general classroom rules. Art and science might be some examples. These should be included in your plan if they apply to your content area.

Consequences & Rewards

State your consequences and rewards in a tiered system, from minor to more severe
Your plan for consequences and rewards should function as a menu for effectively responding to classroom behavior. It needs to be appropriate for the intended grade level and reflect how you plan to create a positive classroom environment

Procedures

List at least five (5) procedures you plan to use in your classroom
Remember classroom procedures help students know what to do when the bell rings, when their pencil breaks, when they finish their work early, or when they need to use the restroom. Procedures include steps, and these steps are not individual separate procedures.

Think about the daily functions of your classroom:
How will your students enter?
What will they do first?
How will you transition from one activity to another?
Example Procedure for Entering the Classroom:

  1. Enter room quietly, 2) Turn in homework to the appropriate bin, 3) Gather materials needed for the day, 4) Begin work on warm-up

Classroom Arrangement

Describe how you will arrange the physical space of your classroom
This is a great place to demonstrate how your classroom will be inviting and inclusive of ALL students. This section must contain more than just how your desks will be arranged

Think about your student population and the following to get you started:

Do you have a student in a wheelchair or using crutches?
How will you make sure your classroom is physically accessible?
Do you have English Language Learners or students with learning disabilities? How will your classroom accommodate their needs?
How will your desks be arranged?
What will be on your walls?
Is student work displayed?
Are there anchor charts? Vocabulary words? Sentence stems?
Reflection

Construct a detailed reflection answering the following questions:

Which management theories did you try to incorporate into your management plan? Why?
What are your personal strengths/weaknesses when it comes to classroom management? How does your management plan reflect that? How have you addressed your areas of weakness?
What types of professional development might you pursue to address weak areas?
