Criminal Justice Studies
CRMJ 2000: INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDIES
RESEARCH PROJECT
Instructions:
You will be graded on your performance on this research project:
Choose a substantive issue from the last part of the class (e.g., criminal trial and sentencing, community corrections, institutional corrections, prison life and after prison, juvenile justice, etc.,). Describe in a few paragraphs the nature of the issue you selected. Then, identify which agent(s) and/or parts of the criminal justice process for which the area you defined is relevant. Why are they important? What issues and problems does the issue raise (for the criminal justice system, victims, the public…)? What do you think should be done about any problems you identified? What developments do you think may take place in the next 40 years in that area? The project should be at least 1000 words long-not counting the references page, etc. (State the word count). 60 points.
Your answers should be typed, double-spaced, times new roman, 12-font, and standard margins. Please use MS Word and include all your answers on one document. You should upload your answers through Dropbox no later than 11:59PM, April 19th. Please put your name on your Research Project. You will not be docked points for a few typos, grammatical errors, etc., but if the structure of your project is poor, or is full of typos and errors (to a point that it takes away from its substance), then you will lose points.
Please organize your research with an introduction, body, and conclusion. You MUST use the APA Format, CORRECTLY. There are many examples of proper use of APA on eLearn course page, the TSU Library web page and particularly on Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL)

Make sure that your Research Project Makes Sense. Make sure that it is well thought-out and critical/analytical. Phrases such as, “for example,” “specifically,” “in other words,” “furthermore” are promising—they indicate that you are being clear, specific, explaining yourself, etc. You must use at least two references and your book can be one. You are expected to draw on at least one material from outside the course material and you must cite the material and provide a reference page. If you refer to your course text or an essay or something from class, you do not have to formally cite it. You should assume an audience that knows nothing about the Criminal Justice System and the topics you are discussing.
You should e-mail me with any questions you have. This project is supposed to reflect your own personal journey. If I suspect that this is not your own work, I will cancel your results and give you a failing grade. No late projects will be accepted. No excuses will be accepted. Period! If you are worried about having internet issues or your computer crashing, use a lab on campus or start and complete well ahead of the deadline.
Good luck
