1. Disguise plays a crucial role in The Taming of the Shrew, throughout both the Induction and the main story. While most of the disguises are removed in the end, what do those that use them achieve? Are their goals met or not?
2. Soliloquy in Hamlet
Shakespeare is perhaps the finest crafter of soliloquy in the English language. In the “All occasions do inform against me” or the most famous “To be or not to be” soliloquies Shakespeare gives voice to the mind’s thoughts. As Barranger says Hamlet moves from inactivity to action. Do you find this notion of the character speaking their thoughts to be accurate? or does the stage language convention of soliloquy make the scattered thoughts of Hamlet appear in a better light than thoughts of suicide or murder as unsaid motivations. Is it a misrepresentation of himself? Is it truly how he feels or is he illustrating a representation of the ideas?
2. Voice and Movement
Compare and contrast the voice and movement of the actor/s in the following clips from Princess Bride and Hamlet. What is being communicated vocally? Through movement? You can focus on any of the characters, not just the main ones. Tell me what you see and hear.
