For this project you will write a persuasive and thought-provoking piece about an
opportunity, problem, challenge, or issue in P12 schooling that you find compelling and
about which you are informed.
You choose the recipient/audience and topic of your persuasive piece. You will ensure your piece is sent to and received by its intended recipient. During the remainder of the semester you will bring drafts of your piece to class and receive immediate feedback from a team of peers.
Your opinion piece must:
• Have an intended audience (Your piece must include the intended recipient’s full name, contact info, email, submission link, mailing address, etc.)
Be between 900 -1,250 words Include an introduction – i.e. a short statement of the purpose of the piece. Also explain why you are sending it to the intended recipient.
Include 1-3 body paragraphs-i.e. for each issue or subcomponent state the: a) opportunity/problem/challenge/issue, b) your opinion on the
opportunity/problem/challenge/issue, and c) the facts/history/quotes/context that support and elucidate the issue and your rationale.
• Wrap up with a conclusion, i.e. Clearly summarize your
opinion/recommendation concerning the P12 schooling issues that you raised
and what you want to see happen. • End with a signature – i.e. a closing (e.g. “Sincerely” or “Very truly yours”), and
your name and contact information. Be formally acknowledged as received by the recipient.
***Be prepared for follow-up actions – i.e. you may receive a call, be requested to have
a meeting, event, publication etc.
