Unit 3 Discussion Board

Hobbies and interests demonstrate one’s feelings and what they love most away from their jobs and careers in different professions (Tokuda et al., 2020). Understanding the importance and effects of hobbies and interest entails conducting research and getting sources of information that can convince someone about valuing these aspects in their lives and professions (Fan et al., 2018). Hobbies and interests are important to me and I believe to most people, since they enable me to feel my passions, engage in fulfilling and exciting activities that make life worth living and celebrating. While I employed a host of sources and research in demonstrating the importance of hobbies and interests, one source that shows the importance of pursuing these activities is by Jenkins et al. (2019) as it a cross-sectional study that focused on the interactions between work, stress, and play and how students in a dentistry class perceives them based on their impacts on their studies and well-being.

This source is credible as it employs scientific approaches to the issue of stress and how hobbies and interests can help reduce it among students. For instance, Jenkins et al. (2019) assert that students who pursued their hobbies and activities had a better work-life balance and reduced levels of stress. The study also advances that pursuit of hobbies helps one to mitigate possible stress and improve their quality of life. The implication is that this source is credible because its findings reflect the importance of hobbies in one’s life in different areas, from professional to personal interactions with others. The study highlighted critical areas to help understand the significance of pursuing hobbies and interests with the aim of improving overall wellbeing among individuals (Maier, 2020). Further, the study is recent as it was published in 2019, and comes from a scholarly journal based on research evidence and relates to the interaction between career and life balance. These aspects make a difference since they demonstrate that it is a credible source to understand the current issue.

Your other assignment this week, the Unit 3 Individual Project, asks you to locate 1 source that you could use to convince someone else to take up a hobby or interest of yours. The purpose of this Discussion Board is to help you find and evaluate that source to determine whether it is credible, meaning trustworthy or reliable.

If you have found a source already, respond to the following:

Do you think your source is credible? Why or why not?
Consider what would make this a more credible source (e.g., a more current date, a clear author, a noncommercial Web site, and so on). Why do you think this would make a difference?

If you have not found a source yet, respond to the following:

Do you need help from the CTU Library team? What specifically do you need help with?
State your topic (hobby or interest), and describe what you think a credible source might be.
