Students will submit a 4-page book review of Introducing Christian Mission Today: Scripture, History, and Issues by Sunday, 11:59 pm.
Requirements and Format Guidelines:
Please remember the rubric below to do a book review. The three important things I look for in a book review are: Understanding/comprehension of the content Analysis, that includes the strengths and weaknesses of the book Relevance or application of the book to your ministry context or life Review Guidelines – You should structure the book review in the following way: Theme (½ page): what is the overall theme of the book, or what concern is it addressing? Why is this topic important enough that people will find it worthwhile to explore? Summary (1½ pages): provide a short summary of several (3-4) of the book’s most pressing issues or compelling arguments that will help your readers gauge their interest in the book. Remember, a review helps people decide whether they will actually invest time in reading the book. Evaluation & Application (1 page): the purpose of the review is to critically evaluate the text, not just inform the readers about it. Leave plenty of room for your evaluation by ensuring that your summary is brief. Choose a few points to discuss your opinions about the book. The following are some suggestions to use in this evaluation section—these are ideas, not requirements as the goal is to evaluate the book. What worked well for you? How effective was the book in addressing the major concerns or issues that it set out to tackle? What questions did it leave unanswered in your mind? Where did you disagree and why? What other things might the author have researched or considered? What are the book’s weaknesses? Be sure to include how you could apply some of the concepts to your mission context (past, present, or future). This can be a separate section or incorporated into your evaluation. Publishing Details (1/8 page): list the publishing house, place of publication, year of publication, length of the book, and author. The review is to be typed and double-spaced in Times New Roman using a 12-point font, with one-inch margins
