Many people believe that the discovery of HIV and HCV vaccines in the next ten years will be possible. However, I want to dispute this assumption based on various happenings that have taken place. First of all, in the past years since the development of HIV as a causal agent for AIDS, there has been limited research in terms of understanding how the extent of the immune system required to respond against the virus. Additionally, as much as the science continues to look for the ways they can come up with ways of curbing the virus, especially through the development of prolonged combined antiretroviral therapy, there have been cases whereby the use of the drugs has caused complications among the users (Ng’uni et al., 2020). This means that there have to be other ways of how the vaccine developed will be fundamental in preventing these complications a phenomenon that is bringing headaches to the scientists. The argumentat does not mean that the vaccine will not be developed but it will take much longer than ten years to arrive at such development.
On the other hand, the HCV vaccine same like the HIV vaccine will take longer than expected because of underlying factors such as lack of efficacy assessment factors. Scientists face difficulties in having small animal models which can be used in the correlation of protection identified. This means that even if the vaccine is found there will be a failure of assessment. The other problem is that the virus tends to possess a wide range of genotype variability. This variability poses a great threat to the scientists in arriving at a vaccine that can be used to prevent the virus (Zingaretti et a., 2014). Other factors that hinder the progress of vaccine development are the infectious diseases that accompany the HCV. This makes it complicated for the scientist to arrive at a suitable vaccine. Even though there are challenges in the process of developing the vaccine, I believe that one day the world will celebrate the development of the HIV and HCV vaccine to ease the costs associated with the treatment of the disorders.
