GOVT 201 Unit 5 – Discussion Board
People’s behaviors, reactions, and interactions with the government vary with their understanding of the government and its roles. Among the various components of the environment, the education system has the greatest impact on me and my thoughts on government. Unlike peers or friends who provide superficial knowledge of how the government works, the education system provides an in-depth evaluation of the government, its structure, and various responsibilities. For instance, education has helped me to understand the government’s role in health promotion, including providing public health infrastructure, nutrition, policymaking, and preventing communicable diseases from spreading (Mozaffarian et al., 2018; Burris & Lin, 2021). Other roles include responding to emergencies such as disease outbreaks and environmental hazards and promoting healthy behaviors. Laws, policies, and partnerships have helped the government to prevent obesity by banning fast food advertisements (Chung et al., 2022). I have gained all this knowledge through education, which also provides unbiased perspectives of how government systems work.
Healthcare professionals can become active participants in government through advocacy, policymaking, and voting. Through voting, it is possible to improve my life and my loved ones since voting gives people a chance to stand for priority issues such as housing, environment, and education (AltaMed Health Services Corporation, 2022). Voting for leaders that address health and such issues is a foundation for a better life for everyone. Advocacy can prompt the government to expand public health resources to marginalized communities. Such a response promotes health equality and helps to reduce health disparities.
