History in the News Report
One of the goals of this class is to explore some of the peoples, events, movements, and developments of the 19th and 20th centuries that have shaped the globalized world we live in today. The purpose of this short assignment is to get you to draw connections between course content and current events.
Choose one news article and write a one-page, double-spaced reflection on how the particular story seems to have been shaped by the past. Be sure to provide the bibliographic information for the article (author, title, publication, date, and link) at the top. You should make a specific connection either to either a course lecture, reading, or both. The point is not to make a comparison, but to show us how understanding a particular part of global History can help to contextualize and explain what is happening in the present.
