Welcome to your final i-Human Case Study Assignment. You might think of this as your last appointment of the day in your virtual office. Recall that you prepared for your initial i-Human Case Study by imagining the experience of meeting a child and family for the first time. Although you know the focus of this evaluation, how might you prepare for this week’s patient and family if the reason given for the appointment did not state, or even hint at, a behavioral or mental health issue?

In other words, you have an advantage going into this Assignment that you might not have in an actual patient experience. Keep that in mind and consider what you would notice and what you might possibly miss in assessing a child or adolescent for behavioral and mental health issues.

To prepare:

Review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider how to apply understanding of behavioral and mental health issues in children and adolescents, and socio-cultural family needs, in assessing, diagnosing, and treating pediatric patients. 

Access i-Human from this week’s Learning Resources and review the i-Human Case Study. Based on the provided patient information, think about the health history you would need to collect from the patient.

Consider what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be appropriate to gather more information about the patient’s condition. Reflect on how the results would be used to make a diagnosis. 

Identify 3–5 possible conditions that may be considered in a differential diagnosis for the patient. 

Consider the patient’s diagnosis. Think about clinical guidelines that might support this diagnosis. 

Develop a treatment plan for the patient that includes health promotion and patient education strategies for patients with behavioral and mental health issues.
