as
in-class activities and ONE (1) will be done individually outside class.
Assessment Description
An important part of undertaking postgraduate study, is that you actively reflect on what you’ve been
learning and how you could apply it to assist your own professional development and/or future career.
You may select topics that you have most found interesting and/or applicable that have been covered
during the subject. THREE (3) of these journals will be completed and handed in as “in-class”
activities. Attendance at these classes is required in order to complete these reflections.
Week 6 (In-Class Industry Guest Speaker and the demonstrated link between theory and
practice)
Week 8 (In-Class Self Leadership Style Analysis) including:
o How do I describe my own leadership style?
o What are the organisation factors that might assist or inhibit me from being an effective
leader?
Week 12 (In-Class Subject Based Reflection) including:
o What can I do to continually develop my leadership skills?
o What are the three (3) key actions that I need to implement to further develop my
leadership skills and why did I choose these as the most important to me?
To assist you in developing your reflections, you should be writing weekly diary notes recording your
experiences (both positive and negative), on the topics and discussions.

Industry Guest
Speaker
(10 Marks)
(In-Class WEEK
6)

The student has not attended
the Industry Guest Speaker
Session and/or has not
demonstrated any
understanding of the topic
discussed and how it links to
the theories/concepts in the
subject

The student has attended the
Industry Guest Speaker
Session but has demonstrated
only limited understanding of
the topic discussed and how it
links to the theories/concepts in
the subject

The student has attended the
Industry Guest Speaker Session and
has demonstrated a good
understanding of the topic discussed
and how it links to the
theories/concepts in the subject.

The student has attended the
Industry Guest Speaker Session and
demonstrated a detailed
understanding of the topic discussed
and how it links to the
theories/concepts in the subject

The student has attended the
Industry Guest Speaker Session and
has done more than just
demonstrating an understanding of
the topic discussed and how it links to
the theories/concepts in the subject

Self
Analysis/Reflectio
n (Leadership
Style)
(10 Marks)

The student has not
demonstrated the use of any
reflective/self-analysis
activities and/or topics or has
not discussed them with
enough substance.

The student has demonstrated
the use of some reflective/self
analysis activities and/or topics
but hasn’t conducted the critical
analysis required of a
postgraduate subject.

The student has demonstrated the
use of interesting reflective/self
analysis activities and/or topics, but
it is not clear the results have
demonstrated a change in personal
leadership.

The student has demonstrated the
detailed use of reflective/self-analysis
activities and/or topics throughout
and the link to personal leadership
change is obvious. The writing style
still needs minor improvements

The student hasn’t just described the
results of the reflective/self-analysis
activities and/or topics and thoroughly
and clearly embraced the results and
made personal leadership changes

Areas for future
development
(10 Marks)
(In-Class Week
12)

The areas for future
leadership development are
either missing or unrelated
to the key themes.

The areas for future
leadership development are
supported by theories but
are not convincing or well
connected.

Whilst improvement is needed,
there is a solid attempt at linking
the areas for future leadership
improvement with the relevant
theories.

The areas for future leadership
development and evidence are of a
high standard but would be more
convincing if worded more clearly

There is no doubt, by the way the
areas for future leadership
development and evidence are
presented, that these will be
resolved.

Independent
Reflection
(10 Marks)

No theory, linkages or
evidence of application to
the chosen reflection topic
No demonstrated critical
self-analysis or skills
application

Limited theory, linkages or
evidence of application to
the chosen reflection topic
Limited demonstrated critical
self-analysis or skills
application

Well integrated use theory,
linkages or evidence of application
to the chosen reflection topic.
Good demonstrated critical self
analysis or skills application

Usage of theories, and evidence
are analytically used but minor
issues, such application/integration,
preclude a higher mark.

Use of theories, and evidence is
critically discussed and applied to
self-analysis. The student has
clearly engaged with the material.
