Instructions:
– For this assignment, using the course material, you will design your own social movement and determine which digital strategies your social movement will use to achieve the most success. The more specific your answers are, the better your grade will be. Take this assignment seriously. Designing a frivolous social movement will not be good for your grade.
First, taking the role of a social movement organizer with an adequate amount of resources, define your social movement, what it stands for, and what its goals are.

> What is the historical context in which your movement emerged? Why is this sociologically important?
a. What movements are you responding to, if any? How are you learning from previous movements? Is your movement a continuation of a previous movement, or a completely new movement?

> What outcomes are you hoping to achieve?
a. How will you achieve your outcomes within your political environment? What elements of your political environment will make this easier or harder?
> What tactics are you utilizing in physical spaces?

> How are you using collective identity to further your goals?
2. Next, use what we’ve learned in this course to determine how your social movement will use digital technologies to accomplish its goals.
> How are you using digital technologies to communicate your frames to a wider audience?
a. Considering which forms of social media you’ll use, how you’ll engage in activism on these sites, and how you will connect this activism to real-world protests.
> How will you use memes?
b. Feel free to make your own memes for your social movement that will showcase your argument. If you do, please email them to me rather than including them in your paper, as Brightspace sometimes rejects Word documents with pictures in them.
> How “open” will you make your movement in terms of digital participation?
> How will you ensure that your movement stands out from other movements in digital spaces?
> Specifically tie in digital strategies as solutions to the problems brought up in the first prompt, such as creating a collective identity for your movement and responding to repression.
