Mary Bates, a 45-year-old African American CIS female, has presented with several symptoms. Over the past month, she has been struggling to fall asleep, experiencing daily bouts of crying, enduring daily low energy levels, and expressing a pervasive feeling of sadness along with a desire to cease existing. Activities she once enjoyed, such as hiking and kayaking on a weekly basis, no longer bring her pleasure. She hasn’t engaged in these activities in several weeks. Mary has also seen a significant weight loss of 25 pounds, dropping from 150 to 125 pounds, due to a diminished appetite. While she has no immediate plans or intentions to end her life, she is seeking help to alleviate her distress and regain control of her life.
