Microbiology Lab Extension:

General Requirements:
● Use at least 2 additional sources to add more information to your report (remember to cite any outside sources you use; your textbook can count as one resource) (1 pt)
● Write using paragraphs and complete sentences (1 pt)
● Make sure to double check spelling and grammar
In your write up include the following sections:
Introduction (7 total points)
● This section will include the main overall question you investigated (1 pt)
● Describe the techniques you used to answer the question (Hint: PCR and Gel Electrophoresis). (2 pts)
● Include why these techniques are being used to answer the question. (2 pts)
● Also include your hypothesis…is the murderer the PHD student, the post-doc, or the rival scientist? (2 pt)
Procedure and Data (4 total points)
● This section includes a detailed description of the lab procedure(s)/experiment. Write it in enough detail so a peer would be able to recreate your lab based on reading this section. Identify the independent and dependent variables in this experiment. (2 pts)
● Include a summary of the data you collected. (2 pts)
Conclusion (7 total points)
● What did you conclude from this lab? Were you able to answer the overall question from the beginning of the lab? (2 pts)
● Did the data you collect match your hypothesis? (2 pt)
● What other purposes could the techniques used in this lab be used? (1 pt)
● Can the techniques be for investigating other questions that do not involve humans (i.e. microorganisms)? Give examples. (2 pt)
