Assignment Description
Congratulations! Based on all of the evidence that you have provided to your supervisor, she has agreed with your request for a change related to a patient care issue.
Because you initiated this change, your supervisor requested that you give the presentation regarding this upcoming change. Prepare either a patient- or staff-oriented presentation that explains why you and your supervisor felt the change was necessary. You need to present the issue, the need for change, and much of the key evidence that you found to support the planned change.
Complete the following:
Develop a simple patient- or staff-oriented presentation of 12–15 slides.
Include all of the following slide headings:
Clinical Issue
Implications of Noncompliance
Evidence (5 current [within the past 5 years] scholarly or peer-reviewed articles, with 1 slide for each article)
Patient Guidelines or Nursing Practice Guidelines (depending on the patient care issue)
Benefits of Following the Guidelines

The topic of interest related to the best nursing practice in my clinical setting is antibiotic stewardship. Antimicrobial resistance is a problem that has continued to grow and, therefore, a global public health threat (Charani, E., & Holmes, 2019). One of the qualitative articles addressing this area of interest is an article that focused on the facilitators and barriers to the antimicrobial stewardship program uptake (Jeffs et al.,2020). This study aimed to examine the perceptions of primary care prescribers of the usefulness, feasibility, and experiences connected with implementing a community-focused antimicrobial stewardship program. The research question which guided this study was, what is the perception of primary care prescribers on the usefulness, feasibility, and experiences related to the implementation of a community-focused antimicrobial stewardship program?
The target population was the primary care providers and prescribers, including nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and family physicians. The methodology followed a qualitative study design involving qualitative interviews implemented within three primary care family health teams. The participants were asked key questions related to antibiotic stewardship. The analysis of the data revealed important results. As shown from the interviews, facilitators of the antimicrobial stewardship program include the creation of awareness regarding the program, accessing reminders, resources, and information, having relevant and flexible learning strategies, and being engaged with local champions (Jeffs et al.,2020). Barriers were found to be pressure to prescribe antimicrobials, exposure to situational factors that impact prescribing decisions, experiencing diagnostic uncertainty, and time pressures.
One of the study’s limitations is that this was a short-term study carried out in a big urban center, and participation was voluntary, which could have led to a less diverse spectrum of providers. The study concludes that the barriers, such as time constraints, should be addressed to improve the effectiveness of antimicrobial stewardship (Jeffs et al.,2020). The study is significant to nursing since it shows nurses some of the barriers to overcome for effective stewardship and infection control
