ADJUSTED INDIVIDUAL TOTAL SCORE

To adjust for possible differences in difficulty among the forms of this assessment, the raw score (the total number of points received) is converted to an adjusted raw score through a standard process known as equating. The adjusted individual total score is a function of the adjusted raw score divided by the total number of points possible on the assessment.

Adjusted raw score × 100

Total number of points possible

The adjusted individual total score is on a scale of 0% to 100% and is incremented in units of 0.1%. For example, if a student received 76 points (raw score) and an adjusted raw score of 75.5810 on a test that has 99 total points possible, then the adjusted individual total score is equal to 76.3%:

75.5810 × 100 = 76.3%

ITEM SCORING

ATI follows NCSBN guidance for item scoring. Accordingly, each item is worth one or more points. Depending on the itemspecific scoring method, a student’s response may earn full, partial, or no points.

TOTAL NUMBER OF POINTS POSSIBLE

The total number of points possible is the sum of the number of points possible of all scored items and is greater than the total number of scored items on the assessment. The total number of points possible may vary across assessment versions.

PRETEST ITEMS

There are 10 unscored and 60 scored questions throughout the assessment. The unscored questions are used for research purposes.

Nursing Care and Discharge Teaching: Evaluating Parent Understanding of Newborn Car Seat Safety

**Nursing Care and Discharge Teaching: Evaluating Parent Understanding of Newborn Car Seat Safety**

Ensuring that parents have a comprehensive understanding of newborn car seat safety is paramount for infant well-being and injury prevention. Discharge teaching plays a crucial role in equipping parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely transport their newborns from the hospital to home. This active learning template focuses on evaluating parents’ comprehension of newborn car seat safety measures.

**Health Promotion and Maintenance:**

Newborn car seat safety falls under health promotion and maintenance as it aims to prevent injuries and promote the well-being of infants during transportation.

**Ante-/Intra-/Postpartum and Newborn Care:**

Understanding proper car seat usage is essential for postpartum and newborn care. Nurses must educate parents on how to correctly position and secure their newborns in car seats to minimize the risk of injury during transit.

**Nursing Care and Discharge Teaching:**

Discharge teaching encompasses educating parents on various aspects of newborn care, including car seat safety. Nurses should provide hands-on demonstrations, informational pamphlets, and verbal instructions to ensure parents understand how to properly use and install car seats.

**Reduction of Risk Potential:**

Educating parents on newborn car seat safety reduces the risk of injuries and accidents during transportation, thereby promoting the overall safety and well-being of newborns.

**Clinical Judgment:**

Nurses must assess parents’ understanding of car seat safety principles and provide additional guidance or resources as needed to address any gaps in knowledge or skill.

In conclusion, evaluating parents’ understanding of newborn car seat safety through discharge teaching is a critical aspect of nursing care. By ensuring that parents are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely transport their newborns, nurses play a vital role in promoting infant safety and reducing the risk of injuries during transit.
