PART 2
After creating the basic document with headings, please fill in the information for the following sections of your framework:
Cover Page
Your cover page should be formatted as seen in the APA Essay Sample template in the Writing Center. In addition, you need to include the words “Option #1: Honicker Corporation” or “Option #2: Kemko Manufacturing” under your title to indicate your portfolio project option choice.
You will complete one of two options for your Portfolio Project:
Portfolio Project Options
Option 1
Simulation: Scenario A
Case Study: Honicker Corporation
Option 2
Simulation: Scenario B
Case Study: Kemko Manufacturing
To select your option, review the case studies in the textbook – Honicker Corporation case study (Kerzner, 2022, p. 786) and the Kemko Manufacturing case study (Kerzner, 2022, p. 789). You may also want to review the two simulation scenario options, Scenario A and Scenario B. Click on the link in the Course Information module to enter the simulation: Project Management Simulation: Scope, Resources, Schedule V3. Once you have entered the simulation you will be able to look at Scenario A and Scenario B. They are both printer development projects at Delphi Printers. Please specify your option choice in your submission this week. Your instructor will assign your simulation once your Module 2 milestone is graded.
Introduction
Your introduction needs to include a brief overview (one to three paragraphs) of the three sections in the Portfolio Project.
Section 1: Principle Components Discussion
Project, Program, and Portfolio Management Distinction
Describe the project management standards and processes based on the Project Management Institute’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK® Guide – 7th ed.).
Project Prioritization and Selection Criteria
Be brief, but substantive in your description.
Project Charter
Develop a basic 1- to 2-page Project Charter template (a blank form with instructions for its use) that could be used for small-to-medium size projects in a global organization. The intent is to demonstrate your comprehension of the components necessary for an effective project charter. Include your Project Charter template as an appendix in your paper.
References
Include a reference page listing appropriate references. A minimum of three peer-reviewed or professionally published sources are required for this milestone, which will include the course textbook, the PMBOK® Guide, and one additional reference based on your research.
OPTIONS #1 & #2: PRINCIPLE COMPONENTS, SIMULATION, AND CASE STUDY ANALYSIS
The Portfolio Project for this course offers you two cases to choose from, and the deliverables consist of a simulation and three sections of planning and analysis. The project is broken down into milestones throughout the course.
In this module, you will incorporate feedback from your instructor to deliver final versions of Sections 1-3, as follows:
Project Sections
Section 1
Principle Components Discussion
Describe the project management standards and processes based on the Project Management Institute’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK® Guide – 7th ed.). This section should be approximately 5- to 6-pages and include a brief yet substantive synopsis for each of the following items. Most of these items are Performance Domains (to find out more about these items, see Section 3.5 of the PMBOK® Guide – Seventh Edition):
Project, Program, and Portfolio Management distinction (Module 2)
Project Prioritization and Selection Criteria (Module 2)
Project Charter (plus project charter template to be included in an appendix) (Module 2)
Project Development Approach and Life Cycle (Module 5)
Project Stakeholders (Module 5)
Project Team (e.g., the Project’s Organizational Breakdown Structure (OBS)) (Module 5)
Project Planning (Module 5)
Project Work (Module 5)
Project Estimating (Module 5)
Uncertainty (Module 5)
Measurement (Module 5)
The requirements for this section of the Portfolio Project are common for both Option 1 and Option 2.
Section 2
Simulation Analysis
Summarize your performance in the project management simulation completed in Module 6 (A link to the Simulation can be found in the Course Information module: Project Management Simulation: Scope, Resources, Schedule V3; Product #: 7701-HTM-ENG). This section should be approximately 2- to 3-pages and must include:
Identify three project management principles or practices applied during the simulation and their effect on your simulation outcomes.
Reflect on three lessons learned from the project management simulation that can be applied to the future management of projects.
Recommend strategies for improving your simulation outcomes.
The subject content for Section 2 varies based on the Portfolio Project option selected:
Option 1: Complete Simulation Scenario A.
Option 2: Complete Simulation Scenario B.
Section 3
Case Study Analysis
Review and assess one of the two global project management case studies designated:
Option 1: Honicker Corporation case study (Kerzner, 2022, p. 786)
Option 2: Kemko Manufacturing case study (Kerzner, 2022, p. 789)
Based on your analysis, develop a 3- to 5-page recommendation for achieving the objectives outlined in the case study. As the main part of your recommendation, incorporate the following Project Management Plan components based on the PMBOK® Guide (high-level or sample):
Scope Statement
Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
Project schedule or Gantt
Risk Register
Stakeholder Register
Communication Technology Description
Additionally, based on project team performance and leadership traits exhibited in the designated case study, identify the primary attributes needed to lead this project scenario successfully.
