The transition to young adulthood is difficult and stressful to many individuals. Young adults cannot cope with all the changes happening at once and bad decisions are made. Such as the engagement in health damaging behaviors including drugs. Drugs usually lead the young adult to other auto destructive behaviors such as speeding and illegal acts. Young adults also suffer from mental health problems, unintentional pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections. Therefore, nurse practitioners must act on this matter utilizing preventive screening and intervention.
Young adults must be screened for substance abuse, STIs, mental health disorders, pregnancy, and more. Young adults must be educated in how to channel their stress in other activities that do not place their health in danger. Young adults should be educated in the importance of recreational activities in adulthood to prevent stress related diseases. Stress is a major factor in many diseases and actions taken by all adults and is something that needs to be addressed by health professionals. In young adults, loneliness and social isolation were associated with poor mental health and physical health (Christiansen et al., 2021). Nurse practitioners must screen for loneliness and social isolation in young adulthood and provide resources such as therapists and more. Loneliness was associated with increased odds of asthma, migraine, arthritis, hypertension, mental illness, depression, anxiety, alcohol problems, and more (Christiansen et al., 2021).
Young adults’ main problem is to adapt to life by themselves and is difficult for them. Food insecurity was associated with greater odds of marijuana use , methamphetamine use, and nonmedical use of prescription opioids, sedatives, and STIs (Nagata et al., 2021). Healthcare professionals should also screen for food insecurity and provide the appropriate resources. Healthcare professionals all around the country should not only focus on treating diseases. However, they should also focus in helping individuals in treating the stressful factors leading to the disease.

### Personal Philosophy of Nursing
#### By Stephany Acevedo Rodriguez
#### Introduction
I am Stephany Acevedo Rodriguez, a dedicated acute nurse practitioner (ANP). I practice nursing at [Hospital/Healthcare Facility], where I focus on providing comprehensive care to young adults. My nursing philosophy is grounded in the belief that preventive care and early intervention are paramount in promoting health and preventing disease.
#### Definition of Nursing
Nursing is both an art and a science dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities. It involves the holistic care of patients, addressing not only their physical health but also their emotional, social, and psychological needs. Nursing encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including patient education, advocacy, and the administration of medical treatments.
#### Assumptions or Underlying Beliefs
My nursing practice is built upon several key assumptions and beliefs:
1. **Holistic Care:** Patients should be treated as whole individuals, considering their physical, emotional, and social needs.
2. **Preventive Care:** Prevention is more effective than treatment; early intervention can prevent the progression of many diseases.
3. **Patient Education:** Educating patients about their health empowers them to make informed decisions and engage in healthier behaviors.
4. **Compassion and Empathy:** Providing compassionate and empathetic care builds trust and enhances patient outcomes.
#### Major Domains of Nursing
1. **Health Promotion:** This involves educating patients about healthy lifestyle choices and preventive measures to maintain and improve their health. For example, teaching young adults about the risks of substance abuse and the benefits of regular physical activity can help prevent health problems.
2. **Disease Prevention:** Early detection and intervention are crucial in preventing the onset of chronic diseases. Regular screenings for conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and STIs can identify issues before they become serious health threats.
3. **Patient Advocacy:** Nurses act as advocates for their patients, ensuring they receive the best possible care. This includes speaking up for patients’ needs and rights within the healthcare system.
4. **Care Coordination:** Effective care coordination involves working with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care. This includes referring patients to appropriate specialists and support services as needed.
#### Summary
##### How Are the Domains Connected?
The domains of nursing are interconnected and collectively contribute to holistic patient care. Health promotion and disease prevention are proactive measures that reduce the need for more intensive medical interventions, thus improving overall patient outcomes. Patient advocacy ensures that individuals receive appropriate and respectful care, while care coordination facilitates seamless and efficient healthcare delivery.
##### What Is Your Vision of Nursing for the Future?
My vision for nursing is a future where nurses are fully empowered to lead preventive health initiatives and advocate for systemic changes that prioritize patient well-being. I envision a healthcare system where preventive care is the norm, and nurses play a central role in educating communities about health and wellness.
##### What Are the Challenges That You Will Face as a Nurse?
Challenges include addressing health disparities, dealing with the increasing complexity of healthcare needs, and navigating a rapidly changing healthcare environment. Additionally, nurses must continuously advocate for patient-centered care in a system that often prioritizes efficiency over individualized attention.
##### What Are Your Goals for Professional Development?
My goals include pursuing advanced certifications in areas such as mental health and public health, engaging in continuous education to stay current with medical advancements, and developing leadership skills to advocate for nursing practice improvements. I also aim to participate in research to contribute to evidence-based nursing practices.
