RESEARCH ESSAY, WRTG112, Spring II 2024 1 Paper #3: Research Essay Length: 8-10 pages Remember to Give Your Paper an Original Title The goal of this assignment is to build upon your work in previous assignments to interact with sources that both support and counter your research claim. Your Issue Exploration paper identified and described a situation that you chose to analyze. This essay will now require you to continue that discussion with further development, drawing upon appropriate secondary sources (peer-reviewed) for support. While it is recommended that you continue with the idea established earlier in the course, you are allowed to shift your topic’s focus as needed; this is a normal developmental step in the research and writing process. A suggested outline will be available in LEO to help organize the essay. As with the previous essay, this paper should include a clearly written thesis statement that provides an overview of the essay. The essay’s subject and your major claim about the subject must be clearly identified in the introduction. Authors of sources from which you take information must be clearly identified throughout the essay according to APA style guidelines. Body paragraphs should begin with topic sentences connecting the paragraph’s details to the thesis statement. Your paper should include multiple paragraphs with an effective introduction and an appropriate concluding paragraph. There will be a short, informal reflective essay required with the research essay. The essay will be graded according to the attached rubric.
