Research Project Written Report: Instructions

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to provide an overview of your research experience and knowledge gained through the research project course.

Instructions: For additional clarity, please review the rubric for the project as well. The final paper should follow the following outline:

1.      Introduction: Do not use the term “introduction” see APA 7th edition formatting. In this section provide a brief overview of topic that was the focus of your practicum hours. This section should also include the purpose of the paper and a preview of what sections will be included. (This section should be 0.5 to 1 page).

2.      Background and Significance: Provide background information on your topic and review its significance to those impacted. Because some of you have selected research topics outside of nursing, please discuss how the research will benefit those impacted as well as the community and/or society as a whole as a result of the research being conducted. You will need to use the scholarly peer-reviewed literature to assess the background and significance of your topic. (This section should be 2-3 pages in length).

3.      Critique Your Research Project: In this section, critique your research project in the following three areas:

4.      Identification of the enablers, barriers, and strategies for the development and implementation of the research and/or scholarly project, indicating possible solutions for the barriers.

5.      Discussion of the outcomes expected from this project (e.g. implications for future research, scholarship, and evidence-based practice).

6.      Evaluation of the overall value and contributions this research or scholarly project will make to consumers, nursing and other health professionals, administrators, and policy makers. (This section should be 4-5 pages in length).

7.      Role of Advanced Practice Nurses: Evaluate the role of advance practice nurses in relation to the research project. Consider personal objectives achieved related to advancement of research knowledge and competencies. If you worked on a non-nursing related project, discuss the value of the research process to advanced practice nursing. (This section should be 1-2 pages).

8.      Reflection: This section should include your reflections regarding your research experience this semester. Include your views on the challenges that you faced and the learning that you experienced. You may use FIRST PERSON in this section ONLY. (This section should be 1-2 pages).

9.      Conclusion: This should include a summary of your entire paper. (This section should be 0.5 – 1 page).

10.   Format: Use the American Psychological Association ([APA], 2020) to format your paper. An APA 7th edition paper template has been provided for you in the weekly module and the course resources. You can refer to this for reviewing the format of the title page and headers within an APA formatted paper.

11.   Grammar and Mechanics: Your paper should be proofread and spell checked. There should be few or no grammatical or mechanical errors.

12.   Length: The paper should be a MINIMUM of ten (10) double spaced pages. Failure to meet this minimum length requirement will result in the loss of points.

13.   Sources: You should use a MINIMUM of five (5) scholarly peer-reviewed sources. These sources should be published within the last five (5) years.

14.   Turn It In score <25% and AI score <15%

Topic of research: Barries to the uptake of doxycycline post exposure prophylaxis (DoxyPEP) for STI among population

Summary of the Activity

Reflection on the Activity

I participated in three guided sessions with faculty to
learn advanced article search strategies using academic databases. I learned
how to apply Boolean operators, MeSH terms, and filters to refine results and
improve the relevance and quality of the literature for the research project.

The session significantly improved my ability to locate
high-quality, peer-reviewed articles relevant to my research question. I now
feel more confident in conducting focused literature reviews and critically
appraising sources. This will strengthen the foundation of my research and
contribute to evidence-based practice.

Meeting

This meeting helped clarify the expectations and timeline
for the research project. It was valuable to hear feedback and ensure
alignment with course objectives. I gained better insight into how to
structure my contributions and coordinate with the team moving forward.

Literature Review Meeting

During the meeting, we discussed strategies for
synthesizing literature effectively and identifying research gaps. I learned
the importance of critically evaluating study designs and outcomes. This
discussion improved my ability to select high-impact articles for our review.

A practical guide: Screening for systematic review (50pg)

Reading this guide deepened my understanding of the
screening process. I learned the key principles of eligibility criteria,
inclusion/exclusion decisions, and record-keeping. It made me more confident
in evaluating studies objectively and consistently.

Mastering the Screening Process for Systematic Reviews

This activity reinforced the importance of consistency
and accuracy in screening. I practiced applying protocols and resolved common
screening challenges. It prepared me to contribute reliably during
collaborative article reviews.

A practical guide: Data Extraction for Intervention
Systematic Reviews (88pg)

This guide provided step-by-step insights into effective
data extraction. I now better understand how to organize data related to
interventions, outcomes, and study characteristics. It will help me
contribute to a reliable and replicable review process.

Covidence Screening Practice Zoom Meeting

Participating in this session gave me hands-on experience
with the Covidence platform. I improved my ability to screen articles
efficiently and learned how to resolve conflicts with co-reviewers. This will
improve our workflow and review quality.

A practical guide: Protocol Development for Systematic Reviews
(70pg)

Reading this guide highlighted the significance of a
well-developed protocol in guiding the entire review process. It taught me
how to frame clear research questions and select appropriate methodologies,
which are crucial for transparency and reproducibility.

Team meeting with preceptor

The meeting helped align our progress with the
preceptor’s expectations. We discussed challenges, refined our approach, and
clarified goals for the next phase. I felt supported and motivated to
continue contributing effectively.

Individual Covidence Article Review

Independently reviewing articles in Covidence
strengthened my ability to apply inclusion/exclusion criteria and critically
assess relevance. This practice helped me develop autonomy and precision in
the research process, essential skills.
