General Instructions ( IMPORTANT READ ALL GENERAL INSTRUCTION SECTION)
In this four-part 6-page (double-space) paper, students will describe a current, specific social injustice
affecting a particular population(s) or community, how this injustice impacts the health of affected
populations, linkages to the social determinants of health, strategies that have been attempted or used to
address this injustice, and recommendations.
During the first week of class, the instructor will post on Canvas a sign-up sheet for strategy paper topics.
In selecting topics, students are encouraged to draw on personal interests and experiences, and on events
in their communities. Through the sign-up procedure students will be organized into groups of three or
four students. Students will work together to define the problems, review research literature, and provide
feedback on each other’s papers, but (1) each paper must focus on a different aspect of the problem and/or
effects in a different community.
Sources of current epidemiologic data should be included in your paper to document the problem in
detail. Your work on this paper must be an original composition. Thus, please do not submit work that has
been submitted in other courses as this will result in a deduction of points related to the proportion of
work that was previously submitted. The bibliography, and any tables or figures do not count towards the
word count. Use APA formatting for all aspects of this paper. (See paper content requirements in the
Assignment Descriptions document posted on Canvas). Be sure to include a title page and
bibliography/reference list for each section. When you turn in Part D with all of the preceding parts, you
should also include a 100-150 word abstract. The title page, abstract and reference list do not count
towards your page count.
