Whilst the devastating impacts of COVID-19 have been felt across various industry sectors, including tourism, hospitality, and events, some scholars consider that the pandemic has also provided a rare opportunity to critically rethink and act on the past unsustainable practices such as over-tourism and unplanned tourism development.
Hence, “the ‘new normal’ for tourism, must engender radically different thinking about what a reshaped tourism system might look like, and how it can continue to succor for these reliant on it, whilst not compromising intergenerational equity or ignoring the IPCC’s stark warnings about the climate emergency”.
