Telemedicine

Access to Care: Telemedicine

Access to care can involve two issues: Geographic access and timeliness of care. Some people in the United States live in rural communities that do not have the number or type healthcare providers needed to care for the population, especially specialty providers (i.e., cardiologists, oncologists, endocrinologists, etc. ). Other people have many physicians in their community, but they must wait weeks before they can schedule an appointment with the type of provider they need to see.
One state designed a project to increase access to care in rural areas for patients with Hepatitis C.
