Overview
The main goal of the current study was to explain how plasticity and stability, two of the Huge Two meta-traits, affect creative self-concept and performance on creativity tasks. A sample of 57 university students, ranging in age from 19 to 48, provided the data.
The IPIP-NEO 120 inventory was used to assess personality meta-traits, the 11-item Short Scale of the Creative Self (SSCS) was used to assess creative self-perception, and the Alternative Use Test (AUT) and Remote Associates Test were used to assess divergent and convergent thinking, respectively (RAT). The results showed a strong relationship between stability (r = -0.32) and plasticity (r = 0.29) and creative self-concept. Personality qualities had little effect on divergent thinking, while divergent thinking was substantially connected with plasticity but not stability (r = 0.28).
Multiple personality and creativity research that used the Big-Five personality assessment to evaluate personality found that plasticity had a smaller impact on creative self-concept than stability. To investigate the higher-order personality influences on creativity that might not be obvious at the Big Five level, more study is necessary.
