This final project prompts you to critically explore the role of mass media in American politics. Instead of traditional essays or research papers for a final assignment, you will share your insights and analyses through creating an engaging social media campaign. Part I: Media Consumption and Analysis Select a significant political event or election from recent American history (for instance, the 2020 presidential election). Watch and analyze related news broadcasts, political ads, talk shows, and social media content from that period. YouTube will be very helpful. Part II: Theme Identification and Campaign Planning Based on the media content analyzed, identify major themes or narratives (such as media bias, the impact of social media, or the role of political advertising). These themes will form the basis of your social media campaign. Part III: Social Media Campaign Creation Using a social media platform of your choice (Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook), create a week-long campaign (let’s call it five days – a work week) that critically explores the themes you identified. Your campaign should: 1. Consist of daily posts that include brief text analysis, selected media clips, infographics, and/or self-recorded video commentary. 2. Encourage engagement from followers through the use of polls, questions, or requests for comments. 3. Include a unique hashtag that captures the essence of the campaign. Part IV: Sharing and Discussion At the end of the week, screenshot or save your posts and compile them into a single PDF document. Upload these documents to Canvas for credit. Project Format: The final project deliverable will be a PDF document containing the series of social media posts created for the campaign. Evaluation: Your project will be assessed on the depth of media analysis, and the creativity and cohesiveness of your social media campaign. Note: Ensure that all used media clips fall under fair use policies and are properly credited. Have fun creating your campaign!
