It is important for educators to understand all areas of assessment, eligibility, and transitional planning for students who have been identified with specific learning needs. Perhaps equally as important is having the ability to share information with others who will be interacting with the student.
Using the “Class Profile” or your field experience classroom, select one student with exceptionalities and identify their individual learning differences. Create a 750-1000 word service plan to be shared with other teachers on your campus. The plan should describe how you plan to support the selected child throughout the year and include the following:
Brief description of the needs of the student.
Minimum of 1-2 examples of how you will respond to the needs of the individual with exceptionalities using understanding of development and individual differences while practicing cultural competence.
How you plan to utilize assessment results and the IEP as tools to guide educational practices that support the individual with exceptionalities.
Examples of how you will inform instructional planning based on identified learning gaps and patterns. Include a discussion about how to use Response to Intervention or other MTSS to plan and implement differentiated instruction.
Describe how you plan to keep families informed of progress using data from screenings, classroom observations, curriculum-based assessments, and student artifacts and how these will be used to inform educational decisions.
Describe how you plan to support open communication with and mentor parents/guardians to promote their need to advocate for their child within the school, including collaboration with external service agencies when needed to support the child’s education.
Suggestions for applying methods of professional decision-making and action regarding students, families, other professionals, and educational law to your future professional practice.
Support your services plan with a minimum of two scholarly resources.
