Goal

My smart goal for the NUR344 unit will be to administer S4, S8 and restricted drugs of all routes within my scope of nursing practice guidelines as a final-year nursing student. I will analyse with my critical thinking why these medications are charted for the patients and their effects on patients’ treatment.

Specific

During my placement I will broaden my knowledge about safe preparation and administering various routes of medications. I will ensure safe medication administration based on MIMS and the yellow Australian injectable drugs book. ( mostly located in the drug room in the hospital ). I will educate patients about drug interactions indications contraindications and their adverse side effects. For example- If someone is taking S8 Endone for pain reliefhe may have a likelihood of constipation.

Measurable

I will carefully read and follow the MIMS and Australian Injectable drugs book if I am administering drugs to patients. I will let my preceptor know about my goals so that my preceptor guides me and educates me throughout my placement period.

I will maintain consent and patients’ cultural safety before administering various routes of drugs so that they feel safe and accommodated with my care.

Achievable

I will fill out a feedback form from my preceptor after the completion of my placement shift every day so that I can work on my weakness and broaden the horizons of my knowledge. I will make a note in the pocket diary about all medications charted for my patients so that I can study them and discuss them with doctors or nurses if needed.

Relevent

I will act as a Registered Nurse during my placement. I will not only understand how to administer medications safely without any error but also attain knowledge about every single medication that is administered to a patient. I will document after administering the medications and write the effectiveness of the medications and inform my buddy nurse about it.

Timeframe

Time management is very important in a patient’s critical care when it comes to contributing to a patient’s life better. By the end of my placement, I will come out of the hospital placement as a fully confident and skilful Registered Nurse after getting positive feedback from my preceptors or buddy Nurses.
