Students will then respond to two other student’s video. The responses are worth 10 points each. (100 points)

1-2 minutes that explain “What would it have been like to attend a production in a theatre from the past?”
What historical moment are you discussing?
What did the theatre look like? (Theatre configuration, indoor/outdoor, seating, etc.)
What plays and playwright were popular?
Who attended? Why?
1-2 minutes that explain “How does the concept of “liveness” today differ from how it was understand in that particular moment?
What does “liveness” mean in a contemporary theatre, based upon the readings and viewings for this class?
If you had to define “liveness” from that time period, how would you conceptualize it?
What ere the expectations of the audience during the “live” event?
1-2 minutes that explain “What place did theatre have in society?”
What class/classes of people went to the theatre?
Was theatre banned? Censored?
Who could write plays? Who could perform in plays? Who could watch plays?
The video presentation MUST incorporate vocabulary from the course. You want your reader to visualize what you are describing so select examples from your research that stuck out to you and/or incorporate visuals into your presentation.
You MUST submit a bibliography with all of your sources below your posted video. DO NOT USE Wikipedia. I will read all of the pages ahead of time and you will receive a zero if I find substantial information pull for Wikipedia. Citations MUST be present for any direct quotes, internet research, etc.
1) Choose your theatre! Your options are:
Theatre of Dionysus, Golden Age of Athens
Roman Theatre at Orange, Roman Empire
Blackfriars Theatre, Elizabethan England
Drury Lane Theatre, English Restoration
Comédie-Française, French Neoclassicism (Louis XIV)
Lianozov Theatre, Moscow Art Theatre
Deutsche Nationaltheater, Weimar Republic
Lewis Wharf, Provincetown Players
Theater am Schiffbauerdamm, Berliner Ensemble
** Pay attention to the theatre name AND the company/time period referenced for the historical period you must research **
If you have another historical theatre you would like to research, reach out to your instructor.
Your research should include investigating the theatre, its audiences, and its historical time period. Make sure to answer the questions above as fully as you can!
Remember, you MUST submit a bibliography with all of your sources below your posted video. Make sure to keep track of your sources as your go. Citations MUST be present for any direct quotes, internet research, etc.
3) Make your video!
Your video can be in any format you wish, as long as it answers the required questions.
You can be as creative or lame as you wish.
However, be sure you critically engage with course vocabulary and utilize the specific information/research on your historical theatre.
3) Respond to your classmates’ videos!
As with your discussion boards, you are required to respond to two other videos from the class. Your responses can be questioning, thinking alongside, and/or interrogating any relevant component of the videos.
