Assessment Task

You are required to complete a portfolio containing evidence of successful completion of seven health assessments. The assessments will relate to different areas of practice; these include mental health, neuro, wound, renal, cardiovascular, blood interpretation and arterial blood gas, communication and history taking. 

Submission Details 

Clinical assessment portfolios will be provided in a paper format, and these must be scanned and uploaded to Moodle and submitted no later than 09th July 2025 at 13:00.

Oral Presentation Viva Date: Group A 15th July, Group B 16th July, Group C 17th July 2025. 

Assessment Title: Health Assessment in Clinical Practice Presentation 

This assessment enables you to demonstrate achievement of the following Learning Outcomes: 

  • Collect, collate and utilise a patient’s medical history to undertake appropriate and effective clinical assessment.
  • Critically appraise and evaluate assessment findings, including psychological factors and demonstrate holistic clinical reasoning.
  • Formulate a clinical report and/or handover that provides interpretation and clinical reasoning of diagnostic investigations that applies a multi-disciplinary approach to care, which optimises patient safety.
  • Critically appraise your clinical management and decision-making skills in your patient’s holistic health assessment and adjust practice accordingly. 

LBR7696 Assessment Task 

You are required to present a retrospective case study of a health assessment you undertook on a patient. Throughout your presentation, you will be required to: 

Demonstrate critical thought about the episode of health assessment that you have undertaken. 

Reach evidence-based conclusions from the assessment process. 

Articulate an effective holistic assessment. 

You must: 

  • Include a patient case study from your clinical practice area.
  • Critically explore and underpin with literature all assessment methods, frameworks and tools used during the assessment process to justify how this has informed your decision-making process.
  • Discuss how your patients’ past medical history could impact their presenting complaint.
  • Critically evaluate the significance of your findings.
  • Critically discuss how you systematically assessed your patient.
  • Critically evaluate your role throughout the assessment process.

Demonstrate evidence of reading and appraisal of relevant theory and research.

The final copy of your presentation will need to be submitted to Moodle by the deadline published for your group. Failure to submit your presentation on time will result in a non-submission mark and a fail on the first attempt. 

It is advised that you present for 20 minutes, allowing 10 minutes for questions.

Submission Details 

You will be required to submit your completed presentation on 09th July 13:00 2025, which you will then present the following week. 

Submission is electronic, via Moodle. Please include the assignment cover sheet you can find on the module Moodle page, with your submission.  All submissions are submitted to Turnitin. 

Assessment Support 

The module will include many sources of assessment guidance and support. 
Further academic support at BCU is also available. This can be accessed via the Academic Development Department (ADD). Details of which can be found on the city and the assessment page of Moodle. You can also book a literature searching session with a librarian. 

Throughout the module, support for preparation for your assessment will be available, including peer observations, formative simulation, and ongoing feedback from practical sessions. 

Further specific guidance for your summative assessment: 

  • Graphics should be a key element of the presentation and reinforce the text. Your artistic ability, however, is not being assessed. Use electronic means of copying, but reference the sources. 
  • If you intend to refer to numerical data in your presentation, we strongly recommend the use of tables, graphs, etc.
  • During your examination, you must not read from notes verbatim. As you will be giving a presentation, you are advised to structure your slides to guide your verbal explanations. Further guidance on this will be given during the module.
  • Your presentation must be fully referenced. A reference list using the Harvard system must be presented
