Unit 11 Poverty in Contemporary Britain (Social Policy) Question 1 You are required to produce a presentation that demonstrates your understanding of poverty in the UK.
Your presentation must include the following: –
An evaluation of absolute, relative and social definitions of poverty. An evaluation of the main theoretical approaches to poverty, including structural, cultural, and individual explanations. An explanation of the evolution of poverty in Britain over the past century with consideration to economic, social and political influences. An assessment of the impact of key historical events on poverty levels and the public perception of poverty in Britain. Guidance You will need to produce a set of presentation slides using PowerPoint or similar software.
You must not embed your video file into the presentation slides in the form of short clips embedded in each slide.
Relevant theory must be referenced where appropriate and a references list provided. Your presentation should also contain appropriate images to support your commentary. If these are taken from published sources, they must be referenced accordingly.
Question 2 You are required to write an essay that demonstrates your understanding of poverty in the UK.
Your essay will need to include an evaluation of each of the following: –
An examinatoin of the theoretical principles and methodologies underpinning different approaches to measuring poverty. An evaluation of the extent to which poverty measurement methods reflect the lived experiences of individuals and families. An evaluation of recent policies aimed at tackling poverty in Britain. An assessment of the effectiveness of these policies in addressing poverty among different social groups. Guidance The essay should be written in paragraphs which flow; it is therefore recommended that you plan your essay before you start to write it.
You must attempt to include some conclusions and recommendations towards the end of your essay.
Relevant theory must be referenced where appropriate and a references list and bibliography provided.
The essay should be a maximum of 1,750 words in length.
