You will choose any word from Wicked or Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog that was mentioned at any time in any of the sources. It could be:
Green
Professor
Brick
Witch
Storm
Copper
Gingerbread
Superhero
Villain
Freeze-ray
And so on.
Then from there, narrow the topic for better focus.
Example: if you chose “gingerbread,” you could do “the origins and evolution of gingerbread as a winter seasonal treat.”
Or
If you chose “witch,” you could do “the witch in modern day America: from trials to new age religion.”
Essentially it should be focused enough that you’re making clear points about it and can find specific and credible sources to use.
Requirements:
Minimum three pages (bottom of three)
Double spaced, Times New Roman 12
MLA formatting/citations
At least three credible sources – one of these sources must be print and one must be from a database/journal. The print source cannot be the fictional book wherein you found the word. Print source must be nonfiction.
Should include a properly formatted Works Cited page
Includes direct quotations (both blended and otherwise) and paraphrased information from secondary sources with correct MLA in-text citations
Should maintain third person consistently throughout the paper
Secondary Source Guidelines:
All sources should be credible. So if it’s from a blog, the answer is most likely, “don’t use this” unless the author of the blog is the head of NASA and your paper is on the Mars rover and its findings and implications thereof.
You should have sources not just from the general Internet, but also from peer-reviewed articles or studies
Every source in the paper should be listed in the Works Cited. And given that paraphrased information must be cited, this also means that any source listed in the Works Cited should be found cited within the paper as well. I should be able to match them up easily.
Proposal Guidelines:
Submit to me 3-4 sentences which explain the following:
Your overall topic (ex.- “gingerbread”) and your specific topic (ex. “the origins and evolution of gingerbread as a winter seasonal treat.”). Briefly tell me your current level of knowledge on said topic and then explain what information you wish to find (ex: I already know that gingerbread houses are often built around winter holidays, particularly related to Christmas, and I know many of the spices we find in gingerbread are synonymous with cold weather (ginger, cinnamon) but I don’t know why gingerbread is related to those things or why those spices are so prevalent at this time of year. I would also like to explore the rise in popularity of gingerbread house competitions).
