March 21, 2010, was not EBP’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world.
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.
P a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.

You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
The healthcare organization website I reviewed is the American Nurses Association (ANA). Upon exploration, evidence-based practice (EBP) is prominently featured on the ANA website. EBP is mentioned in various sections, including the mission statement, vision, philosophy, and goals of the organization. For example, the ANA emphasizes the importance of evidence-based nursing practice in improving patient outcomes, enhancing the quality of care, and advancing the nursing profession.
The ANA’s work is clearly grounded in EBP, as evidenced by its commitment to promoting the integration of research evidence into nursing practice. The organization provides resources, guidelines, and educational opportunities to support nurses in implementing EBP in their clinical settings. Additionally, the ANA advocates for policies and initiatives that promote evidence-based nursing practice at the organizational and legislative levels.
The information I discovered on the ANA website has reinforced my perception of the organization as a leader in promoting evidence-based nursing practice. By actively promoting EBP, the ANA demonstrates its commitment to advancing the quality of patient care and supporting nurses in delivering evidence-based, high-quality care.
Overall, the ANA’s emphasis on EBP aligns with the principles and goals of modern healthcare, and its efforts to promote evidence-based nursing practice contribute to the achievement of positive patient outcomes and the advancement of the nursing profession.
